X, formerly Twitter, is set to bring video and audio calling features soon. It will not be available for all X users, though. The audio and video calling feature on X may only be available for premium subscribers, the media has reported. According to screenshots posted by investor Chris Messina, of X’s code on rival app Instagram Threads, as spotted by TechCrunch, X users would be able to receive video and audio calls from their address book contacts, users they follow as well as Verified users. They may also be able to decide who they get calls from, the screenshot suggests.

“As hinted in Linda’s sizzle reel, X will be adding audio and video calls shortly. (Just to be clear: don’t call me, I’ll call you.) #DeadTwitter,” Messia posted on X rival Threads.

Another screenshot suggests that the audio and video calling will be a part of X Premium subscription.

Earlier this month, tech billionaire and X boss Elon Musk announced that audio and video call features will be added to the micro-blogging platform, days after company CEO Linda Yaccarino said that X will get the feature. The video and audio calling feature on X, formerly Twitter is said to work on platforms including Android, iOS, PCs and Macs. The feature will not require a phone number to make audio and video calls.

With the addition of this feature, much like Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and other social networking apps, users on the micro-blogging platform would also be able to make video and audio chat calls as X shifts to become an “everything app”. The company CEO was earlier quoted as saying that video calls on the platform would become available without sharing phone numbers on X.

Since his acquisition of the platform, tech billionaire Elon Musk has posted his plans of transitioning “Twitter” into an “everything app” that included 25,000-character-long posts. After renaming Twitter to X, Musk officially renamed the aggregating platform TweetDeck to XPro. The announcement of the renaming was made by Musk on July 28 through a tweet in which he stated, “Name is changing to XPro. Will come with a wide range of psy op plugins.”
