WhatsApp May Roll Out Ability To Make Group Calls With More Than 30 People

Meta-owned WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature for people who make group calls on the chat platform. According to WABetaInfo, which tests WhatsApp beta features, the instant messaging platform is rolling out a feature for beta testers on Android via version that will let them initiate group calls with up to 31 participants. Earlier, the feature was said to be available for only up to 15 participants and it was available for up to 7 members before that. The Meta-owned massaging platform has also introduced minor changes to the calls tab.

With this update, the users on the world’s most popular messaging platform can start big group calls by selecting up to 32 people, including the caller who started the call, thus, removing the previous restriction of 15 participants.

As per WABetaInfo, WhatsApp’s revised interface for the calls tab. As per the revised calls interface, the call links are no longer mentioned on the screen. It now says that only one or more contacts can be called. The floating action button has also been replaced with a plus icon.

“It seems that WhatsApp keeps working on improving calls by adding similar enhancements with the latest updates,” the report said.

The feature to initiate group calls with up to 31 participants, along with minor improvements to the calls tab, is available to a limited number of beta testers and will roll out to even more people over the coming weeks, the report said.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp is reportedly rolling out a new “automatic security code verification” feature for end-to-end encryption to a limited number of beta testers on Android. With this feature, the app will try to automatically verify if messages are end-to-end encryption without requiring any user intervention. This process will be called “Key Transparency”, enhancing the overall security and privacy of users’ conversations by checking if they are using a secure connection.
