CAT 2023: Record 3.3 Lakh Registrations, New Centres And Focus On Non-Engineering, Women Candid
The Common Admission Test 2023 (CAT 2023) witnessed a remarkable 30% surge in registrations compared to the previous year, with approximately 3.3 lakh aspirants vying for MBA admissions in the prestigious Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), told Dr. Sanjeet Singh, Professor, Decision Sciences Area, IIM Lucknow and CAT 2023 Convener to ABP Live. This year around 3.3 lakhs candidates have registered for CAT 2023, said Dr. Sanjeet Singh. Talking about how CAT 2023 is different, we have added new test centre cities, we have made the application ecosystem more user-friendly. Also, some IIMs give extra weightage to non engineer and women candidates.
When asked why did you feel the need to add additional exam centres for CAT 2023? Prof Sanjay replied, “To make the exam easily accessible to the applicants. And also, a greater number of applicants leads to the increase in the number of test centres.”
When asked if is there any proposal to make CAT twice a year?
He said, “Nothing as of now.”
“The number of participants in CAT has seen a steady increase over the years, with 3.3 lakhs taking the exam in 2023, compared to 2.55 lakhs in 2022, 2.3 lakhs in 2021, 2.28 lakhs in 2020, and 2.44 lakhs in 2019,” he added.

The CAT registration for 2023 concluded on September 21 at 11 AM. Next, registered candidates will be able to download their CAT admit cards on October 25 from the official website, iimcat.ac.in. According to the schedule, the CAT exam is set to take place on November 26.
