Meanwhile, a large number of privately owned vehicles like auto-rickshaws, taxis, maxi cabs, freight vehicles and corporate buses, are not operating in Karnataka’s capital on Monday implying several challenges for various commuters, including school children and office workers. The Federation of the Karnataka State Private Transport Associations has announced a ‘bandh’ or a strike.

The federation’s call for a strike is in support of several demands, including the prohibition of motorcycle taxis and an appeal to the government to expand the Shakti scheme. This scheme, which currently provides free bus transportation to women on state-operated buses, is being requested to be extended to privately owned buses as well.
